Apple’s new HomePod Mini comes at a much lower $99 price compared to the original HomePod which is now $299.
There are some pretty awesome new features like the Intercom feature, but in this video, we are going to focus on sound quality by listening to three different genres of music.
At the same time, Google released a new Nest Audio speaker which is much louder and should have better sound quality with a dedicated woofer and tweeter for the same $99 as the homepod mini and Amazon has brand new 4th Gen Echo and Echo Dot for $99 and $49 as well.
Which smart speaker is the best in terms of sound quality and features, and what limitations do they have? Lets find out!!

I am stereo pairing a set of Google Next Speakers…$50 each on ebay combined with loving the combination of what Google delivers with youtube subscriptions (no ads plus youtube music) made the choice easy. I do use a lot of apple products, but they don’t connect to Youtube music.
Now I know I have to buy the HomePod mini

I was shocked to find out HomePod Mini is n… not ac like Echo or Nest… definitely better and easier connection with Nest or Echo!
Well you have bad editer at 5:11 or the second song full they forgot to change the speaker icon from homepod to the echo dot

I don’t care about sound. I care about the personality of the assistant. I can’t stand Amazon Echo/Alexa by now. It never shuts up. Even on Brief mode it constantly adds "By the way," or asks "Did I get that right?" It’s also a pain to deal with in several other ways. I’m only here today because despite being heavily invested in Amazon Echo and Amazon Smart Plugs (that only work with Echo), I just can’t take it anymore and have to find something else that just does its job and otherwise keeps quiet. Imagine being interrupted constantly at inappropriate volumes (people are sleeping, or first thing in the morning, for instance) by every light switch or outlet in your house and that’s what it’s like to invite the Amazon Echo/Alexa combo in. It’s torture that never ends.

😢😢😢 I…. just ~2 weeks ago bought the Echo Dot and I love music! I thought the Dot was great (in terms of sound as well) as I had an old Google Home Mini in the other room.
I have an Echo Dot and it sounds great. You didn’t turn up the volume because you might want to make it look bad next to the others. Not ok
I loved the HomePod mini it had great sound
you really messed up which speaker was playing on the rock track, when the HomePod mini was playing, you put the volume icon above the big echo. you can tell when the homepod mini was playing based off of the light on top
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)… but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn’t support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have…. Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with… I don’t sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn’t really matter to me….
The Google nest sounded the best with the HomePod at a close second The echos can get thrown in the trash

I have 9 Echo dots and 2 Show’s in my home. I’m replacing them with Google, simply because Google seems to have a LOT more information, and a better understanding of what it’s being asked to do. Case in point: ‘Alexa, how much is the lottery?’ (I get an unrelated answer) I ask another 4 times, and get similarly unrelated answers. It takes about 5 asks before getting a straight answer.
I can ask for information on an upcoming album drop, and am told ‘Sure. here’s (unrelated / unrequested) music’. Alexa, how’s the traffic? I get directions to a destination I’ve never requested. Alexa, shuffle my music … nothing plays. I ask another 3-4 times. ALEXA! PLAY MY MUSIC!! a podcast starts. It’s just too much. When I fight with my AI on a daily basis, it’s time to disconnect.

To have a fair comparison you would need to match the volume levels in Decibels of any audio test because the human ear always hears louder and thinks it is better. This has been tested by the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and MIT. The conclusion is always the same are multiple scientific white papers on this phenomena. Its just like video where your eye thinks brighter is better, you r ear will think louder is better. Thanks for doing the test it is really appreciated.
Echo and nest have zero bass at all. The echo sounds just like the name, just an echo, no sound quality at all.
You have a goddamn equalizer on the google home app for ur nest audio
I really like your videos but it happens quite often that your on screen graphics are incorrect. For example, the playing indicator during the rock song example.

Damn it man, i mainly need one of these for turning shit on and off with my smart appliances. Everything i own supports alexa or google and none support the apple homepod. It sucks that i am balls deep into the apple eco system.
For rock, the Homepod mini sounded the worst and compressed but dang are they all close (similar priced ones)
remember sound is logarithmic, so every 10 decibels is 10x louder!
Got me a couple of Nest speakers on sale from Google with 33% off a few years ago (only €66 each). Probably the best tech investment I’ve ever made. When paired up & output adjusted via the equaliser settings those really pack some punch. Assistant works very well in general, but on occasion I get a response telling me ‘I can’t find the other speaker in this pair’ for playback which can be somewhat annoying. For the price I got them at it was a win-win situation.
