Sorder? Solder isn’t pronounced Sorder.
Hi. I can’t glue the wires from the main board of the car key when I try to replace it with a smart key fob (I don’t understand how I choose the plus and minus wires of each button). Maybe you can help me and make a video on how to replace the car remote control with a smart key fob. Thank you
Thanks for the video
A really good and comprehensive video. Just, maybe, a little trick that can come in handy (on the other hand, forty years soldering circuit boards teaches a little something): get a syringe of flux and keep it handy, because it can get you out of trouble in many situations. One example: it can happen that you apply the tip to solder for too long, in which case the tin becomes dull and sticky. This is called a “cooked” solder: in this case (which often causes false contacts and brittle solder) you can fix the issueby simply adding a little flux. The tin will return shiny and fluid as before.
Make sure that when you’re soldering you wipe off the tip every time or at least every other time you use it, and then tin it before you turn it off and put it away. I was only wiping it off after I was done, and this led to my tips getting really oxidized and unusable really quickly. This is a crucial point that will save a lot of pain for newbie solderers like me 😅. Love the guide tho I’ve been coming back to this one and it’s very helpful!
After watching this I now feel like I’m more capable of soldering than I really am lol. Great "beginner" crash course!! Thanks!
I bought a cheap soldering iron ($3, the same kind as shown in the video), and it started making weird noises and smoke started coming out of it so I got scared and unplugged it. Is it supposed to do that?

What does it mean when the solder won’t adhere to the pad? I find that when trying to get the solder onto a pad it either takes forever to heat and melt, and when it finally does the solder just forms a bubble on top on the pad. Almost as if it’s repelled by the pad.
Thank you for your clear explanation on technique it helped me immensely
Just wired a headlight on my dirtbike by my self with no instructions or help. Im really proud of my self. First time soldering too, its really fun idk why people wouldn’t want to do it 😂
Thank you for adding a leaf to the tree of knowledge. This video has been most helpful.
Burnt my finger cause I forgot I was right handed, touched the shit with my left.
Super helpful how-to! I’m finally diving in and this is all I’m watching to get started
Really helpful thanks. I learned a lot in this short video.
Hello, I see you work with your bare hands, how do you prevent static from doing damage to the boards and chips? thanks
So what other "crash-course" type videos would you guys like to see?
63 37 rosin solder is the easiest and most popular in aerospace manufacturing.
is soldering temperature fixed for all electronic component ?? …. like diodes and transistors ?
Great video. Thank you🎉
After having done multiple hit and miss soldering projects over the years (mostly miss) I decided maybe I should look up how it’s supposed to be done. I was one of those people who was trying to dribble solder onto the pieces I wanted stuck together. Tried your technique of heating the pieces first and adding the solder and was successful on the first try. Thank you, thank you!
What are you using to light/power them
This is really a well detailed video on soldering tips and electronic supplies. Thank god for YouTube.
Don’t let those people giving you a hard time about how we pronounce solder know about the words "could" or "would," it might break their minds to see a word where the "L" is silent!
Thanks but why the background noise that you race with. What a pity. At some point it stops and peace…
I used to do a lot of soldering air conditioning lines for Freon and it is basically the same concept just a lot smaller. This was helpful I have project coming and I just need to solder two wires.
Reading many articles on the subject of soldering, I was informed that the iron should be set to 260°C (if manageable) if not, try getting a higher wattage plugin iron.
A lower temperature takes longer to heat up the solder however, this could also burn out the PCB board while waiting for the lead to melt.
One would think that a cold iron wouldn’t be a cause for concern with a low temperature but a dull knife in the kitchen is a lot more dangerous than that of a sharp one!
My guy. Many thanks for making this video! I’ve owned a decent soldering set for a while now. I have used it to fix power cables on an electric butchering knife for my wife’s grandpa. I have also used it to fix where the power cord connects to the original Xbox. Before this I had zero experience. Pretty much every mistake you mentioned I am guilty of. I am about to dive into learning how to install a mod chip into both of the original Xboxes I have as they both will not work as is.
8:55 That middle finger placement under the work area is WILD! Love it. Great video. Thanks!
Great video but the Gameboy collection is amazing and the NES controller buttons on the wall is the icing freaking DOPE!!!
HI. I think you have a great video. I’m a DIY kind of person and am usually challenged to at least try new things. Your video is very helpful. I have a circuit board that goes to the AC unit in my RV. Last February, at 6:00 am, it tried to start on its own for no reason. Don’t need AC in the winter. I’ve taken it apart. There are 3 relays and one is gone bad. I believe I know which relay is bad but will replace all 3, just to be sure. I could send a pic if you’d like. Is that something for another video? Thanks
This is a great video! I am in need of soldering my expensive headphone wire that broke off from the connection to the driver and I was hoping I can get a good idea of how to do this without feeling like I’m about to cause a fire hazard in my house. Thank you so much for making it accessible and easy to understand even for such noobs like myself. Much appreciated!
Hi thank you for the tips. I’m trying to fix a key fob for my used Jeep that I bought. It was given to me with the battery holder broken off and not with it. I bought a replacement key to take the holder off of. I pray this works! I want to be able to lock my beautiful Jeep without the car alarm going off. 😢
So we don’t have to use flux in this situation?
As someone who loves to fix and clean stuff, you have my thanks. I always wanted to learn soldering. I also learned to use Multimeter properly thanks to Engineering Mindset. This skill is a great investment. Not only will I save money, have fun but I’ll be able to fix stuff that I couldn’t before.
Thank you SO much for this video four years later 😀 I’m looking to take the plunge into soldering for my first time and I wanted to see what sorts of things I should/shouldn’t be doing, thank you for not only covering some good techniques but also good after-use cleaning. My inspiration project for getting into soldering is that I want to take a nut button (I know) and make it a power switch for my PC by soldering M/F wires onto the button, ideally preserving the "NUT" sound effect if possible. I’d also like to try my hand at fixing a flakey LED light base for my gamersnexus display thingy since it doesn’t like staying the same light I set it to.
TYSM!!!
Thanks for the helpful vid! Curious what that desktop lamp is? Looks very handy!
Learned a lot here! Thank you for the video. One thing I don’t think you addressed is the technique of pulling the iron off the surface you are soldering. The technique of getting the solder to form the bubble or actually stay on the wire. Besides getting the solder point hot enough to melt the solder, handling the wand to leave the ‘blob’ there is the biggest thing I struggle with!
Thank you so much! I’m a beginner and just wanted to fix my MacBook screen when I found out I would have to transfer I-chips over to my replacement screen to restore the true tone function. Hopefully all goes well haha
"sol-der-ing" please😅
it doesnt work
Wow this video was amazing. Fantastic tips! I was doing everything wrong!
Thanks for this, I’m about to start learning to solder and this has been very helpful!
Great video – super helpful 😄
He is talking so fast. Almost rushing through every step. So hard to understand
Awesome intro and some solid tips. Done lots of PC builds and some modding. Ready to jump into consoles so it’s time to build those solder muscles!
What soldering iron equipment are you using?
I’ll stop pronouncing it "sodder" when Brits stop saying "not atoll" instead of "not at all" and "shinjen" instead of "St. John".
Pronunced Sol der ing not Soddering.
